We don’t always like it, but sometimes things need to change.  This year, I have resolved to make the line 100x more fabulous.  In order to do that I need to change.  Lots of things need to change.

This morning, in the shower, I had a “God” idea.  I often get “God” ideas in the shower, I think because that is one of the only times I allow my brain to really shut off and be quiet.  Anyhow, the words “Face Lift” came into my head and I knew almost instantaneously, like a massive and high speed download, that I needed to start a new blog documenting my journey this year as I re-vamp my brand.

Change is not always fun.  Sometimes it is LOTS of fun.  But lots of times it is not.  Join me on my new blog as I take this new journey.  And don’t worry, I will still be here too!

Do you have a bad taste in your mouth for “New Year’s Resolutions?”  They often seem to get a bad rap.  We don’t keep them very long and then we decide they are pointless or worthless words.  I have made ‘resolutions’ in the past.  Some I’ve kept and some I have not.  Do we throw them out completely because of failure?

As I pondered this question this morning, I wondered if we really have a good understanding of what it means to make a resolution.  I was prompted to look up the definition.

RESOLU’TION, n. (From Webster’s American Dictionary of English Language, 1828)

6. Fixed purpose or determination of mind ; as a resolution to reform our lives ; a resolution to undertake an expedition.

7.  The effect of fixed purpose ; firmness, steadiness or constancy in execution, implying courage.

That is a powerful word.  To have a “fixed purpose,” “firmness,” “steadiness,” …. “courage!”  These are GREAT things!  I wonder how many of our past resolutions failed because we had not fixed a purpose to the words.

FIX, v.t.

1.  To make stable; to set or establish immovably.  The universe is governed by fixed laws.

2.  To set or place permanently ; to establish.

3.  To make fast ; to fasten ; to attach firmly ; as to fix a cord or line or hook.

4.  To set or place steadily ; to direct, as the eye, without moving it

Or maybe we did not fix a worthy enough purpose to the words so eventually they became unimportant to us.  If the purpose is powerful enough, the words will truly be a “resolution.”

Psalm 141:8
But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge

2 Corinthians 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Hebrews 3:1
[ Jesus Greater Than Moses ] Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.

I hope you can find a worthy enough purpose for 2012 so that you can resolve to not let yourself be moved.

Have courage, have faith!!!

Funny Story.

{Cliche}Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Adult Movies 002When I was preparing our home to be moved, I did a lot of culling, sorting and organizing.  One of the tasks I took on was going through all of our CDs and DVDs.  I dumped the ones that did not work, gave away those we did not really use anymore, and organized what was left into CD books.  I had one for Music, one for Wii games, one for “Kids’ Movies,” and very innocently I labeled the last book “Adult Movies.”

“Adult Movies” seemed like a logical title.  Having oodles of “kids’ movies,”  what else is there left besides “adult movies.”  I did not think much more about it until it was moving time.

When all of our friends came over to help us move the book label became an “issue.”  Ha!  Ha!  You should have seen the faces and heard the razzing we got about our book of “Adult Movies.”  We did not just have a couple of “Adult Movies,” we had a book filled with 64 of them.  LOL!  Wow, my eyes were opened to my label.

All of our friends know us well, but even they were a bit “concerned” when they first read the label on that book.  I had not thought of the label I had put on my book in that way before.  We laughed about it all day, frankly we laughed about it for months, and I still smirk whenever I look at that book.

Label Lessons

We unknowingly mislabel ourselves sometimes.  Have you placed a label on yourself that others may be misreading?  With the way you dress, they way you speak, with your posture?  Check your labels with a new pair of eyes from time to time.

We may be misreading other people’s labels.  Be careful not to judge the labels you have seen on others before opening the book to see what is inside.  Look at the fruit, not just the leaves.

“17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.

Matthew 7:17-18

Hope you can laugh at yourself today!

Almond Blossoms Necklace - Rose Quartz and Fine Silver - One-of-a-Kind

Over this spring and summer I have slowly been releasing my newest collection called “Almond Blossoms.” It has been an interesting experience for me since it has all happened in and around some major events for this business: a move and an injury. It is funny how that new collection, despite how difficult it has been for me to release, is still speaking volumes. Its prophetic word has greatly encouraged me as I have struggled with getting tendonitis in my right hand.

The Jewelry’s Word  Speaks to Us

“Almond Blossoms” has not only spoken to me as I have wrestled with what to do with a business that so acutely relies on the strength of my hands, but it took a surprising leap when it spoke to a young ballerina named Anna. Anna had asked me if I would help style and photograph her for an upcoming audition. Since I was in desperate need of photographing the new collection, we decided to pull double duty and make the photographs usable for both of us.

As Anna and I worked to snap the gorgeous pictures, she asked me what the collection was about. As I began to tell her, her eyes widened and she said “that word is for me!”

“Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
“Jeremiah, what do you see?”
And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.” Jeremiah 1:11-12

That Part of My Life is Dead

My simple summary was this “When God anoints your life for a purpose, even the dead things can come forth, blossom and produce fruit.” In Numbers 17 the tribes of Israel were arguing over who should be in charge of ministering to the Lord.  Despite all that Aaron had done in the past to help lead Israel, not everyone agreed that he should lead the priests.  To stop the fighting Moses had the leaders of the 12 tribes place their staffs in the Tabernacle of the Lord. “The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds.” Numbers 17:8  God made Aaron’s dead stick bloom!

Anna the ballerina started taking dance classes at the age of 13. Shortly after, she started intense training at a prestigious ballet school. During her years there she struggled to play catch up with the girls that were already in advanced levels at her age. But through passion, persistence, and patience she started to advance from one level to the next.

At the age of 15 Anna was accepted into her dream ballet school, Universal Ballet Academy (Kirov Academy), in Washington, D.C. Through the summer program and into the year round program she fought once again to play catchup to become the ballerina she dreamed of. She was greatly discouraged when she found out that some of her teachers didn’t think she had what it took to become a ballerina. The harsh words made her passion dwindle and she left the school to pursue other things.

Some times dreams and talents, visions and relationships die. Sometimes harsh words or harsh circumstances make them dry up. Sometimes it seems too much time has passed or the opposition seems too great. But when God anoints us for a purpose, no matter what kind of opposition we come against, He will cause our lives to bloom and bear fruit.

Can I Dance Again??

After a 2 year break from dancing Anna started up again and each endeavor helped her remember why she loved dancing. Part of Anna’s inspiration was reading the book Dance: God’s Holy Purpose by Dr. Ann Stevenson. This book transformed her every thought of what dancing meant to her. She came to a place where she realized that God had a BIGGER purpose for her dancing than just perfecting her technique in Swan Lake. So, Anna founded Dance Movement, an avenue for dancers who want to use their gift for Jesus Christ to touch the lives of people, in a hope to bring HIS purpose of dance back to its original state on earth… to purely worship Him and bring Him glory.

68“ Blessed is the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited and redeemed His people,
69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of His servant David, …
74
To grant us that we,
Being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.”  Luke 1

Can God do the BIG dreams too?

Ever since Anna started ballet, her dream was to become a professional ballerina. Over the years that dream never left, but she continued to put it off because of the words of her teachers. She simply did not believe she could, especially as the years moved on without heavy formal training on a regular basis. Anna prayed that the Lord would show her what to do with her passion for dance. Through an encouraging conversation she decided to not put her passion on the back burner anymore and to not miss the opportunity to dance with all her heart.   Our photo shoot for her portfolio was right after she made that decision.

Anna threw herself in pointe shoes taking ballet classes and hit the gym. A week and a half later she auditioned for a dance company.  Despite not taking ballet classes intensely for many years, the joy in her heart for pursing her passion shined bright. Throughout the whole audition she smiled and focused on her love of dancing for Him. Even though she says she was not perfect in her moves she prayed for the favor of God. Two and a half days later she received an email from the same ballet company offering a contract for THE LEAD role in an upcoming performance!!!

God’s Hand, God’s Anointing, God’s Spirit Was on Her

Anna's Dance Pictures 065

"Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31b

Dance Movement’s website states exactly what happened to Anna:

“Not by power, nor by might, but by My Spirit.”  Zechariah 4:6

Anna now looks back at how quickly things happened all because through her faith, God shined a little light on a dead area of her life that He wanted to bring back and use for His glory.  She did not rely only upon her own abilities, but let God’s Spirit do His work.

God spoke to me through all of my problems with my hands and wrists to tell me that if He has anointed me to bring Him glory through my creative gifts, He will make a way to continue to grow this business and ministry.  By your Spirit Lord!  On your Spirit I rely!

May God’s prophetic Word, the Word of encouragement and life speak to you today and everyday!

Ever feel like you are being pushed around?  By people?  By circumstances?  By pain?  By regret? Does it push you back or push you forward?

In A Corner

I was pushed into a corner.  My hands and wrists were in pain and I had to close up parts of my line because I could not physically make them any more.  I was frustrated and confused.

Was I supposed to stop making jewelry all together?  Was it time to move on or was it time to take a step forward?

I’m sure many of you have felt that way before.  What did you do?  I could have taken it as a negative but instead I decided I needed to push forward and ask God if He was pushing me to see a bigger picture.  God encouraged me and showed me that He had anointed me for these things, so I took some initiative and signed up last minute for the Conference of Creative Entrepreneurs in San Francisco.  I was ready for new ideas, new contacts, new wisdom and inspiration.

Things Don’t Always Go as Planned

I ended up in more pain.  The first day of the conference I was so excited and pumped up.  But by the end of that day my lower back was feeling terribly sore and by the next morning I could hardly roll myself out of bed. I was in so much pain the slightest movement shot shock waves down my legs and up my spine.

What is this LORD?  Here I am stepping out in faith to push forward with your plans for my business and now I can hardly move?

I had 2 full days of conference ahead of me and seemingly no physical way of getting myself there, let alone sitting through it all.  I laid in bed alone, crying, wondering what I should do.

Reach Out

I had gone to the conference to start to reach out and connect more with the creative community.  But I suddenly found myself reaching out, in humility, to everyone I could think of to ask for prayer.  I texted friends on my phone, sent out emails to others, and did a message blast on FB.  I plead for prayer.  There is no other way I can explain the desperation I felt.

Then I waited.  I don’t think I have ever been so desperate to have people pray for me.

Reach Up

As friends started to encourage me with their prayers and speak words of life over my body, I got up the energy to hobble downstairs of the 3 story home I was staying in in San Francisco and got myself into a hot shower.  As I stood under the hot water I felt a strength start to come over me and I began to speak over myself, my body and the city I was in.  I began to pray.

P.U.S.H.

I decided I was not going to let the pain or the enemy push me down or push me backwards.  I began to push back.

Have you heard the acronym P.U.S.H.??? It stands for Pray Until Something Happens.  I took hold of that phase and began to really pray.  No doubt everyone in the neighborhood heard me speaking words of life over my body, over the conference, over the city.  I don’t really remember what all I said, but the words I do remember are these, and I repeated them to myself over, and over, and over again.

In Him I Live, and MOVE and have my being!  (Acts 17:28)

I have never confessed anything with such purpose.  I said it like I was going to war.  I said it to comfort myself.  I said it to prod myself forward.

I Made It!

The Lord sustained me.  The Lord strengthened me.  The prayers of my friends and words of encouragement inspired me.  I got myself dressed.  I got myself down 3 flights of stairs, one San Francisco hill, onto a Muni bus and off again, and into the conference.  I sat through 7 hours of workshops, mingled with other creative entrepreneurs, and made my way back onto the bus, back up the hill and back up the stairs again.  I was still in pain, but I did it again the next day.

I let the pain PUSH me forward not push me around.  The pain was good because it made me reach out to others in a way my flesh would not normally do.  The pain was good because it broke me out of apathy to a place of desperation for the supernatural power of God.  Don’t let your circumstances, your pain, your regrets, your failures, your past, your enemies push you down.  P.U.S.H.!!!
